UltraSound Pest Repeller

March 4th, 2010

The Bird-X YG Yard Guard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller offers a chemical-free solution to invasive animal pests including and perhaps specializing in dogs and rodents. Emitting a variable and adjustable output, this unit is not heard by humans, yet reaches an annoying point in animals’ hearing environment, making them seek more amenable environments. Users have mentioned cats can be somewhat immune, but then, why drive off another pest control unit?

Operating silently, this splendid bit of technology can be used effectively over an area of 4,000 square feet, emitting that high-pitched, ultrasonic (to humans) noise which animals pick up and find exceedingly irritating. Items such as this represent the ability of modern humans to protect themselves from the ravages of lawn and garden pests without having to resort to poisons and other such solutions which often can cause damages to the loved pets of a household or those of neighbors. Easy to mount, it is maintenance free and waterproof.

Slug Bread and Beheaded Thistles – Organic Pest Control Humor ;-)

February 15th, 2010

Slug Bread and Beheaded Thistles : Amazing and Useful Techniques For Non-Toxic Gardening and Housekeeping is the long title and sometimes hilarious but surprisingly relevant and useful book written by Ellen Sandbeck, the authoress of “Green Housekeeping” and “Eating More Dirt”. Irreverent but actually quite practical, much of the stress of her insights revolves around organizing one’s spaces properly to begin with. But following all that are some garden secrets, some vital tips, a few secrets from her elders and the “old fashioned”, as well as suggestions about pest control featuring practical and unusual tools. Yes, some of the suggestions make for more rather than less work – let’s face it, working around pesticides and heavy metals and minerals can be fraught with failure. The ease of point and spray insecticides, the luxury of sticking some poison around the home and garden makes life simpler if, unfortunately, more dangerous for ourselves and our pets and visitors.

Ms. Sandbeck provides some suggestions – a few of which all will find useful – as well as providing a crackerjack and sometime hilarious bit of writing that can entertain as well as enlighten.

Chapin 2675E 1-Gallon Specialty Pest Control Poly Sprayer

February 2nd, 2010

The Chapin 1 Gallon Specialty Sprayer is a unique and powerful tool for use in containing the insect populations in a garden or, more importantly perhaps, in the crevices and cracks where ants and other insects tend to congregate. The unit itself features an easy-disconnect hose with safety lock feature, a 36-Inch nylon reinforced hose, a crack and crevice tool, a poly shut-off with lock-on for continuous spray supported by batteries (not included), and a poly adjustable nozzle (fine mist to coarse stream). For distance spraying of some substantial power – particularly for spraying insecticidal soaps in dealing with pests such as aphid infestations -  as well as for treating crevices and cracks in driveways and hard-to-reach areas, the adjust-ability of this spraying unit, combined with it’s “continual spray” device is perfect for homeowners and commercial applications alike. Durable, reliable and compact enough for anyone to operate, a unit like this can make the chores of insect battles quite a bit simpler and easier.

Electric Fence Kit for Pets and Small Animals

January 28th, 2010

Sometimes simple is better. You need to keep animals out of your garden. You fence it.

Problem is, erecting a fence can be a huge project with just as huge a price tag attached to it. So, here’s your solution: a simple DIY kit for constructing an electric fence for a mile or so. Kit contains ten poles and 100 feet of wire, so you can get one or two kits to cover quite a large area.

Output voltage is at a safe 800 volt. That’s enough to deter most animals, although jumpy insistent dogs could find it easy to jump over.

Kit contains 1 UL listed electric fence energizer, (10) 23″ PVC fence poles, (1) 22″ ground rod, 100′ of 74, 50 cotter pins for fastening wire, 1 ground clamp, 2 extra fuses, and easy to follow instructions.

Click to get this kit on Amazon today. There’s a 23% discount on it right now, but I’m not sure how long that is going to last, so hurry up.

Birds – How to Get Rid…

October 24th, 2009

Birds? Rid!

Birds are beautiful animals, and a joy to have around normally. However, under many circumstances birds turn into pests to be rid of. When you have too many birds, they can cause all sorts of annoying effects, ranging from droppings to excessive noise. You may appreciate song birds, but not everyone enjoys the sound of a flock of seagulls next to their bedroom window, or the crackle of crows…

And then there are pigeons, to which we will dedicate an entirely separate blog post (or two). For now, I just wanted to recommend one great site for all your bird pest control needs:
Bird-X, Inc

You have probably heard about Bird-X already – a leader in the bird pest control field offering an array of non-kill products that are actually extremely effective. What I want to draw your attention to, is that they have a great “bird problem solver” on their site, which guides you through three simple questions towards the anti-bird measures best-suited for YOUR specific problem.

Just click and get to their website and then click on the bird problem solver link on the top right. Trust me, getting rid of birds has never been easier, or more humane.

Pest Control Ultrasonic Device

January 17th, 2009

Ultrasonic devices are a great way to deter pests, both rodents and insects, from your home. Why kill when you can make them avoid your home?

This Lentek plug-in device is a great way to declare your rooms as a pest-free zone. All you need to do is plug it into any wall outlet and voila – your room is sheltered by an utlra-sonic sound which only rodents and insects can pick up on. That means a nagging background noise for them – which they will stay away from – and buzz-free peace for you.

And now, Lentek offers you a special offer with three of these units – to cover your entire home, or at least three prominent rooms. A pack of three of these is available at under $25 right here on Amazon.

Here’s a tip from the maker: use mirrors and glass surfaces to reflect that inaudible sound around the room, for  even more effective deterrence.

Rodent Repellent Granules

December 31st, 2008

Winter time signals a decline in activity levels for many rodents. However, in many areas rats, mice and other rodents do not hibernate and can actually be drawn to the warmth of our homes.

Here on PCH we never advocate killing rodents. They are really no different from our pet hamsters. Pet rats are just the same species as those invading our homes. That does not mean you should welcome them into your homes, but rather then use poison or electric traps, why not try the more humane option first?

The Shake-Away granules are just the non-lethal solution you may be looking for. A safe (even organic!) product that cleverly uses predator scent to keep a variety of rodents away. This stuff is formulated to be effective for repelling mice, moles, rats, shrews, voles, and other rodents. The granules are long-lasting, more effective than liquids and cause no harm to plants or other animals.

This can of 3lb of granules should be enough to form a line up to 1500 feet long – a great way to keep pesky noisy rodents out of your home.

Order it now and keep rodents away, humanely – product details and order form here on Amazon

Dynatrap Insect Eliminator

December 21st, 2008

If you’re looking for a chemical-free bug control solution, the Dynatrap might be a good solution for you. Tell your kids to calm down when you tell them about it too – it will not catch dinos.  It will however, attract mosquitoes and other flying insects with its patented UV light bulbs combined with a fan that sucks them in, they don’t stand a chance.

Keep in mind that this will only work in the evening or night time – as daylight will make the UV light less apparent to the bugs. Hang this one indoors or on your porch, as it comes with a 10-foot cord. It’s quiet, with no zaps, only the quiet hum of the small fan, and with no need for refills or propane, it is also cheap to run. Many customers report coming back for more Dynatrap units.

Check out their product page on Amazon, where you can find all the specs and place your order.

Motion Activated Scarecrow: The Electronic Owl

December 17th, 2008

Motion activated scarecrows are one of those great gadgets of the new era of pest control. This cool electronic owl is one of the best digital scarecrows on the market, and thus one of the most popular ones.

In fact, with some birds and rodents, the very sight of this beautifully crafted owl is enough to get them to stay away. Should one of the little critters get bold enough to wander in, this massive great-horned owl will notice them, turn its head towards the intruder and hoot. It’s great for surprising a human guest with as well ;)

It actually looks great as well, so you have yourself a garden decor item, and pest control gadget, all in one. IT works on three AA batteries and is built to work outdoors for years.

The wonders of modern technology!

Click here to check out the product page on Amazon and order your own Owl.
