Honey Bee

Honey bees are not really pests. They are beneficial to the eco-system for pollenating flowers and rarely sting unless provoked. Without Honeybees, there would be no cross pollination of different flowers and flowering plants and trees.

However, if there is a large nest on a homeowner's property, the very presence of this nest can be unnerving. A professional beekeeper should be called for the removal of the nest.

The Honeybee workers are 2/5-3/5"  The Honeybee is golden brown in color with black stripes across its abdomen. the queen is larger, but she is not visible until the nest has either been dismantled or removed.

Honeybees will sting one time if provoked. After stinging since they have left their stinger in you, their abdomen has been ripped open and they will die.

Honeybees are crucial to the ecosystem. They fly from flower to flower gathering pollen and they are do cross pollinating when enables plants to contine to reproduce, and go to seed.  Many plants depend on the honeybee for survival, therefore the plant will sport brightly colored flowers in an attempt to attract the bees to them. That, coupled with the nectar these plants give off, ensure their survival if honeybees are around.

A honeybee starts off life as a small egg. This bee will either be a worker, a drone or a queen with specific duties inside or outside of the hive. Unless the bee is a queen bee, this bee will only live for a period of about ten weeks.

Nurse bees tend to the larvae feeding a jelly-like substance to the young bees. The nurse bees instinctively know the larvae that contains the queens, and they feed them royal jelly which is packed with sugars and promotes larger growth.
In 20 days a young worker bee will emerge and be ready for its role within  the hive.Four days later the drones will arrive. The newly born drones only function in the hive is to mate with the queen.

The honeybee hive is intricate with cells lined with honeycomb. There are chambers for the young and places for the queen and her drones. Each bee knows what is expected of it, and they perform like a well oiled machine. Honeybees are well organized and structured.

Pest Control for dealing with  Honeybees-

These bees are not pests. Call your local extension office and ask for the names of some local beekeepers. Arrange for the entire nest to be transferred by an expert. You do not want an unattended dying honeybee nest on your property. The nest will decompose and attract other insects that are pests, such as cockroaches, ants, flies and the like.
