McPartland had become intrigued by reading in Science News where a person had taken citrus hand cleaner and poured it down a fire ant hill. According to the author of the piece, every ant was killed. It began his study of d-Limonene (orange peel extract) and the result became his marketing of his own product, Orange Guard. Made from that same d-Limonene, and combined with other inert ingredients, Orange Guard is now EPA-registered and available to consumers. This product works naturally on ants, fire ants, roaches, fleas, silverfish, aphids, spider mites, leaf hoppers, scale insects, and other insect pests.

Orange Guard destroys the wax coating of the insects’ respiratory systems. When applied directly, the insect suffocates. The citrus fragrance of d Limonene also acts as a repellent. Orange Guard is a water based insecticide. All ingredients in Orange Guard meet the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) standard set by FDA.

All ingredients comprising this very effective garden pest tool are food or pharmaceutical grade stuff. This product is completely safe for use around pets and children. Made with 100% certified organic oils, it contains no alcohol, potassium salts or fatty acids. Use for: Powdery mildew, horticultural fungus, and garden pests. Insecticidal solutions are underused as effective pest control. We have long since relied on the chemical solutions we were raised to appreciate. The unit itself features an easy-disconnect hose with safety lock feature, a 36-Inch nylon reinforced hose, a crack and crevice tool, a poly shut-off with lock-on for continuous spray supported by batteries (not included), and a poly adjustable nozzle (fine mist to coarse stream). For distance spraying of some substantial power – particularly for spraying insecticidal soaps in dealing with pests such as aphid infestations - as well as for treating crevices and cracks in driveways and hard-to-reach areas, the adjust-ability of this spraying unit, combined with it’s “continual spray” device is perfect for homeowners and commercial applications alike. Durable, reliable and compact enough for anyone to operate, a unit like this can make the chores of insect battles quite a bit simpler and easier.

Ultrasonic devices are a great way to deter pests, both rodents and insects, from your home. Why kill when you can make them avoid your home?

This Lentek plug-in device is a great way to declare your rooms as a pest-free zone. All you need to do is plug it into any wall outlet and voila – your room is sheltered by an utlra-sonic sound which only rodents and insects can pick up on. That means a nagging background noise for them – which they will stay away from – and buzz-free peace for you.

And now, Lentek offers you a special offer with three of these units – to cover your entire home, or at least three prominent rooms. A pack of three of these is available at under $25 right here on Amazon.

Here’s a tip from the maker: use mirrors and glass surfaces to reflect that inaudible sound around the room, for even more effective deterrence.

If you’re looking for a chemical-free bug control solution, the Dynatrap might be a good solution for you. Tell your kids to calm down when you tell them about it too – it will not catch dinos. It will however, attract mosquitoes and other flying insects with its patented UV light bulbs combined with a fan that sucks them in, they don’t stand a chance.

Keep in mind that this will only work in the evening or night time – as daylight will make the UV light less apparent to the bugs. Hang this one indoors or on your porch, as it comes with a 10-foot cord. It’s quiet, with no zaps, only the quiet hum of the small fan, and with no need for refills or propane, it is also cheap to run. Many customers report coming back for more Dynatrap units.

Check out their product page on Amazon, where you can find all the specs and place your order.

Vacuuming bugs happens to be a neat pastime which many of my acquainances seem to enjoy. Yes, they are guys, so primordial hunting instincts may have something to do with it. One of them told me how he used his hoover unit for just that, plugging it in whenever a flying pest came into the room.

Well, there is actuall a much easier solution with this designated bug vacuum tool. It’s a high-power unit, which will suck in insects of any size. It’s even more humane, I think, since the bugs get hit by the internal electric grid, killing them instantly.

A great gift for indoor hunters
