American Cockroach

How can you tell if you have roaches?

  • You wake up in the middle of the night and turn on the light in the kitchen and you hear scurrying noises on your counter.
  • You find dead roaches lying around in the morning.
  • You have what looks like coffee grounds on your counters or in your cupboards and you don't drink coffee.
  • You go to bed without doing your dishes each night
  • You live in a basement apartment
The American cockroach is not usually found in homes but is a frequent unwanted guest pest in restaurants and hotels

.

The American cockroach has a passion for food that is spoiling or fermenting.  Found in grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries and cafeterias, this pest is attracted to the dampness

The American cockroach is one of the larger cockroach species. The adult males grow to be about 1 1/2- 2" long. The body is reddish brown and this cockroach has large wings that almost cover its body.

The female American cockroach lays between 9-10 egg casings that contain over a dozen eggs These casings are carefully glued into cracks and crevices of buildings.  The eggs hatch in 215 days and by the 400th day the full adult emerges. The life span of an adult cockroach is 44o days.

Pest Control Tips for dealing with the American Cockroach-

Residual sprays or area sprays that kill cockroaches can be effective.

Foggers that saturate the area with toxic fumes (remove all living breathing creatures prior to spraying. Toss out any food on counters and you will have to wash all utensils and dishes and exposed items after spraying.

Powdered insecticides that you mix with water and apply with a sprayer should NOT be used without first consulting a professional pest control company expert.

Roaches love messy homes. They thrive in clutter and devour food stuff left overnight or longer. Keep you home clean and you will stay healthier because roaches do carry e-coli and salmonella.

Non-toxic extermination of roaches? Adopt a kitty or a puppy or buy a ferret. Cats love to catch and kill cockroaches and puppies will worry them to death.  But don't leave pet food out overnight, because that will attract roaches.
