Oriental Cockroach

Oriental cockroaches harbor a fondness for moisture, so they are sometimes called a water bug because it haunts dark, damp swampy places. Found in crawl spaces, cellars, and sewers, the Oriental cockroaches can also be found lurking under freezers, refrigerators and washing machines.

Like all roaches, these too leave a sticky residue wherever they land. It is this residue that people find so offensive and it is this residue that spoils food quickly.
Unlike other cockroaches, the Oriental cockroach can adapt to colder climates. Its main source of food is discarded garbage and organic matter. It has the distinction of being known as the nastiest cockroach because of the smell surrounding it.

An adult Oriental cockroach can grown to be 1 1/4" long. The color is dark brown to black on the body. The males' wings are fully developed while the female has shorter wings that are non-productive.

The life cycle is shorter than other cockroaches as well. The eggs sacs dropped contain up to 12 eggs and the hatching occurs in 300 days and it takes 800 days for the adult to reach full maturity.

Pest Control tips for dealing with the Oriental Cockroach-

Remove all garbage and destroy any old cardboard boxes that are breaking down

Watch for leaky pipes and drains, or outside hoses that have holes in them and repair the leaks quickly.

Do not leave food out overnight, that includes any pet food. Refresh your pet's water bowl prior to going to bed each night, or invest in a pet fountain.

Sweep and mop your floors daily. If you drop crumbs on the counter wipe the counters down with hot water and vinegar.

Sticky traps are effective for trapping Oreintal cockroaches

Boric acid applied by dusting cracks and crevices and also dusting around the entire foundation of your home (outside)

Pesticides both spray and granules, but check the label directions before purchase and make sure the poison kills roaches.
