Smoky Brown Cockroach

The Smoky Brown Cockroach originates from the tropics. It is likely that the Smokey Brown has gained access to other countries by traveling in tropical plants and other shipments.
The Smoky Brown cockroach is smaller than its cousin the American cockroach. The Smoky Brown, true to its name is a reddish brown color, resembling the color of mahogany with shades of black. They are  smaller cockroach with well designed wings. The Smoky Brown cockroaches seem to have settled in their migration to the warmer part of the United States.

Because of their tropical roots they prefer plant life to groceries and can generally be found in nurseries and greenhouses.  They can fly and will be attracted to bright lights at night.  They do occassionally live inside a home, but generally only if the home is full of potted plants and greenery.

Pest Control Tips for dealing with Smoky Brown cockroaches

You want to fill in with caulk all existing holes and crevices that might lead inside your home.

Fix any dripping faucet or pipe- remember cockroaches need moisture to survive.

Place thick mesh screening across ground level windows.

Clean out your rain gutters, and remove any decaying vegetation from your window sills.

Keep your garbage cans clean and dry

You can use pesticides, either granules or spray, and you need to spray outside your home only, around the foundation. Read all label instructions carefully prior to using any pesticide.  If you have any questions, call a pest control company for assistance.
