Blue Bottle Flies

Blue Bottle flies are scavengers. They typically can be found anywhere there is decaying flesh, or rotten food or organic material. They make an unmistakable buzzing noise and can usually be found buzzing around the windows of a home.
The Blue Bottle fly just like its name implies has a metallic blue body. They are larger than the House fly and can grow up to an inch and a half long.

The Blue Bottle Fly is attracted to objects that give off  bad odors and can often be found on decaying flesh and dead organic matter.

The Blue Bottle Fly is a member of the blowfly family and the young of the Blue Bottle Fly are called maggots.  The adult fly generally lays her eggs in wounds on animals and the maggots hatch and feed on the flesh and thus can spread infection. But these flies are beneficial to the earth, they recycle the nutrients back to the soil when they feed on dead flesh or feed off of animal waste. Still, an infestation of blue bottle flies can be disturbing and may mean there is a dead animal nearby.

Pest Control Tips in Dealing with the Blue Bottom Fly:

Clean up your property. Remove all garbage and be sure you place the garbage in dumpsters or cans with tight fitting lids.

Blue Bottle Flies breed during the warmer months, so be sure and pick up your pet's waste in a timely manner.

Park your garbage cans far enough away from buildings that if the blue bottle fly does come around, the fly won't come inside.

If you notice a large swarm of blue bottle flies, start hunting for a dead animal. There is probably one close by.

Screen off all openings into your home so the fly can't get in. Caulk the holes and cracks because they can gain access through the smallest opening.
