Choosing a Pest Control Company

How do you choose the right pest control company to help you get rid of unwanted pests? Are there guidelines you need to follow in order to get effective relief from the pests that plague you?
When you go to choose a pest control company, check with your county/state and see if they require the company to be licensed.

Most states require pest control owners to take a state exam and keep up on all the newest training techniques around pest control in order to keep their license current.

Read the contract carefully. Most people don't read contracts. They just skim them and then sign the contract. Ask to take the contract home so you can examine it further at your leisure. Don't let a high- pressure salesperson push you into signing a contract you haven't even read. Also be aware that some contracts are two or three pages long.

Look around you when you are at the company. How many vans do they have? Are their pest control people dressed sharply in uniforms. If any vans happen to be open, take a quick peek inside and see if the interior is neat and orderly.

Ask for proof of insurance. Also find out if you are ordering a quarterly inspection of your home for pests are there any cancellation fees that are hidden?

Ask for references.

If you are dealing with only one type of pest, be sure the company is well-versed in how to get rid of that pest before you sign the contract.

Ask for a written report to be given to you after the initial inspection.

Don't settle for the first pest control company you interview with. Ask for, and get estimates then compare prices and experiences and go with the one pest control company you feel will give you the best service.

Before signing the contract check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the pest control company might have open files of complaints with them.

Find out about the specific pesticides being used and ask about safeguarding your children and family pets.

For more information and guidance, contact your local extension office. They will be glad to assist you.
