Culiseta Mosquitoes

With 2500 different species of mosquitos in the world there are 200 species alone in the United States. One of those species is the Culiseta Mosquito. unlike other blood-sucking mosquitos, the Culiseta mosquito rarely bites.
The female Culiseta mosquito bunches up her eggs into a raft type of egg sac and deposits these rafts on water. There can be upwards to 200 eggs in each raft. Weather permitting, most eggs hatch within 48 hours of making contact with the water and the larvae emerge. Thus two of the four life cycles have begun, the egg and the larvae. The larva continue to live in the water only breaking the surface to breathe. The adult stage occurs in 10-14 days when the mosquito takes flight and finds another home.

The Culiseta Mosquito only feeds at night. The Culiseta Mosquito has a higher pitch to its whine then other mosquitos. This mosquito can carry and transmit West Nile Virus, Western Equine Encephalitis as well as other diseases.

Pest Control tips for dealing with the Culiseta mosquito-

Ironically people pursue the Caliseta mosquito (even though it is a pretty passive insect) because of the annoying whine.

You can of course use pesticides to kill a mosquito horde, but prevention is the best way to stop an infestation:

Empty out all containers of stagnant water and remove any standing water that you can.

Bug Zappers are not recommended for mosquito control same goes with the ultra-sonic devices.

Wear light colored clothing while outdoors- mosquitos are attracted to dark colors.

Avon Skin-So-Soft is a good mosquito repellant also Citronella has been proven effective against mosquitos.

Outside foggers set in heavy shrubbery if you have no outside pets work.

DEET used as directed is one of the best anti-mosquito devices
