Armadillos

The armored mammal known as the Armadillo does look quite cute and comical as it scurries across the roads in parts of the USA, but if this critter is taking up residence under your home or barn, your lawn isn't going to retain its lovliness long.

.
The armadillo can grow up to five feet long. They are burrowers and foragers and their main prey are insects. An armadillo that has been actively digging in your yard or field will put any gopher hole to shame.

The armadillo is generally a nocturnal creature, preferring to come out in the quiet and dig for his supper.

Although they appear clumsy, the armadillo is capable of high speed flight when in danger. Equipped with poor eyesight, but a keen sense of smell, the minute the armadillo senses he is being threatened, he will flee.

The armadillo originated in South America and no one is sure how it is that the armadillo arrived in North America and in some sections of the United States are now considered endangered.

Although some people believe that armadillos roll themselves up in a ball and protect themselves from harm this is untrue. The armored shell exists to protect the armadillo so it can hide in thorny bushes until his predator leaves.
The armadillo  can produce several offspring off of one fertilized egg.

Pest Control Tip for dealing with Armadillos-

The best way to deal with an armadillo on your property is to use a Havahart live trap. Do not trap an armadillo during the breeding season, because the young are dependent on the adults for survival.  Once the armadillo has been trapped, take it to a remote location where it will be able to find food and water and release it there.
